Yobe adopts a spiritual stance and swears war on vandals who destroy power towers
In response to the persistent problem of vandals wrecking power towers in the state on Wednesday, the Yobe State Government took a more spiritual stance.
During a prayer session in Damaturu, the state capital, Babagana Kyari, the governor’s special adviser on religious affairs, conveyed the government’s stance.

Due to the vandals’ destruction of electrical towers, Borno and Yobe states are no longer connected to the national grid.
Kyari oversaw a group of Muslim clerics who performed prayers, the Holy Quran, and cow sacrifices in order to appease God for punishing the rebels who had destroyed the towers.
This happened when the governor threatened to lead prayers and the recital of the Holy Quran against the criminals who were determined to keep the two states without energy once he finished fixing the towers.

The Yola Electricity Distribution Company recently revealed that the thieves had collapsed the towers twice, in December 2023 and February 2024, respectively. The Yobe State Government and the Transmission Company of Nigeria had worked together to fix both incidents.
Kyari declared that enough was enough as he led Muslim clerics and students of the Holy Quran who took part in Wednesday’s recitation and prayers session, when cows were offered for Allah to reveal and punish the rebels shattering the electrical towers.
“The Spiritual prayer session was for Allah to expose and punish the criminals, their sponsors, their supporters, those who helped them with the tools used in the destruction of the towers, their transporters to the scene of the crime, whoever knows but refuses to expose them, buyers of the vandalised tower parts, and transformers thieves,” Kyari said.

The towers are a component of the Jos-Gombe system, which provides electricity to the states of Borno and Yobe.
At the time of publication, all attempts to reach Governor Buni, Mohammed Mamman, the Director General of Media and Press Affairs, over the phone were unsuccessful.
