The Delta community is condoled by Oborevwori about the tanker fire incident

The Ometan community in Delta State’s Okpe Local Government Area has expressed its condolences to the state’s governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the loss of seven community members in the tanker fire disaster that occurred on Friday morning.

Witnesses reported that the fuel-laden truck crashed into the road at approximately 10 a.m. on Friday, following the tanker head detaching while in motion in the Ometan village along the Warri-Sapele road.

Speaking at the scene of the accident, Oborevwori expressed sympathy for the community on the regrettable tragedy. He was accompanied by the State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and the former chairman of the Okpe Local Government Council, Hon. Isaiah Esiovwa.

He said, “I was just coming from the creeks where I went to inspect projects and there was no network so immediately I arrived at the Navy jetty, I received a message from the Head of Personnel Management of Okpe Local Government Council informing me of the sad incident”.

“On getting here I saw dead bodies and those who witnessed the unfortunate incident said the tanker had an accident and exploded which led to the fire.

“It is a very sad situation and I commiserate with the people of the Ometan community and families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident.”

Witnesses reported that in addition to multiple victims being hospitalized due to varying degrees of injuries, the victims were completely burned beyond recognition.

A few other buildings, including residential ones, temporary caravans, cars, and heavy-duty trucks, were also damaged in the incident.

Witnesses reported that a mother of a three-year-old child was desperately trying to save her child when she became entangled in the raging fire.

Additional information revealed that a secondary school child was among the victims of the inferno; he had just returned from class when he tragically perished in the fire.
