It has been revealed by the Taraba State Police Command that seven travelers’ remains were found among a forest’s thick foliage.

This information was made following an attack on an eighteen-seater bus on Tuesday that was the target of an ambush in Gamkwe village, which is located inside the Donga Local Government Area of the state.

The car was traveling to Maihula in the Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State when a group of attackers—possibly vigilante members—launched an attack and fatally attacked the vehicle, which was loaded with passengers from Zako Biam in Benue State.

According to reports, the vigilante members assaulted the bus in a fit of rage, accusing the passengers—Tivs—of killing their fellow vigilante member. They had been lamenting the death of one of their colleagues.

Following the attack, the authorities reported 15 passengers—including women and children—missing.

The State Police Commissioner, CP David Iloyonomon, stated in a statement on Wednesday that his officers discovered the seven dead bodies in the woods as they were patrolling the Donga Local Government Area of the State in an effort to quell growing tensions between the Ichen and Tiv ethnic groups.

Five women a baby, and a man were among the seven dead corpses that the commissioner stated had been found.

According to the commissioner, the event on Tuesday commenced when Ichen youths from the Mararaba area of Donga LGA reported that a pastor and a member of his church had vanished while traveling to the church. They made this allegation to the local Police Area Command.

Iloyonomon claims that the youths attacked the town’s Tiv residents after discovering the missing people’s decaying remains that day.

“Our men’s efforts were necessary to rescue some of the Tiv people and bring them to Takum for safety,” he remarked.

“Today, our troops discovered seven dead bodies—five women, one guy, and one baby—while they were out on patrol to uphold law and order and make sure that peace returns.

He declared, “The corpses have been evacuated to the police station.”
