Speaker Abbas drags a former lawmaker from Kaduna to court
Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has filed a direct criminal charge in Magistrates’ Court No. 6 at Chediya, GRA Zaria, against Suleman Wakili, a former member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Mr. M.I. Aliyu, the complainant’s attorney, requested an adjournment during the case’s Thursday, Zaria, hearing in order to allow the speaker’s representative to appear in court.

The defendant’s attorney, Mr. A.Y. Mohammed, did not raise any objections to the adjournment request.
Nevertheless, the case was postponed till April 16 in order to continue the hearing by the presiding Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim-Adamu Salisu.
Based on the alleged harmful lie and character slander, a criminal complaint was filed in accordance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

The accused violations were against Kaduna State’s 2017 Penal Code Law.
On January 9, 2023, the speaker filed the lawsuit via Alhaji Aliyu Waziri, his Legislative Aide.
He claimed that at some point in November 2022, the defendant posted a number of offensive and flagrantly false statements on his Facebook profile, a Hausa-language social media platform, knowing full well that the posts would damage Abbas Tajudeen’s integrity and character.

The hard-earned reputation of Abbas Tajudeen, the member of the Zaria Federal Constituency and Speaker of the House of Representatives, he said, had been damaged by the publishing.
