Shaibu’s notice of impeachment will be served by substitute at the Edo assembly
The notification of Phillip Shaibu’s impeachment as state deputy governor has been published in national dailies by order of the Edo State House Assembly.
This came after it was reported that the deputy governor had not acknowledged receiving the warning from the House last week.

The legislators began the impeachment process against Shaibu last Wednesday, alleging that he had leaked official secrets and committed perjury.
It is thought that the impeachment notice represents the most recent twist in the divide that exists between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki, his principal.
Since Shaibu announced his intention to run for governor this year, there had been an uneasiness in the relationship between the deputy governor and his principal.

During the Monday plenary session, the House decided to serve the notice by substitute after Blessing Agbebaku, the Speaker of the Edo State House Assembly, said that Shaibu had refused the House’s impeachment notice.
He then gave Yahaya Omogbai, the Clerk of the House, instructions to publish the notice in the Nigerian Observer and other national newspapers.

“It is evident that the deputy governor has rejected the impeachment notice served upon him by the House,” the Speaker declared.
“The House will serve him by substitution by publishing the letter in three national dailies, The Observer inclusive.”
