Senators from the North want kidnappings to stop
The Federal Government has been urged by the Northern Senators’ Forum to take decisive action in response to kidnapping incidents occurring throughout the nation.
‘‘not rest until the security situation is significantly improved and the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are brought to justice.’’ the group declared, it would not rest.
Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the forum’s chairman, made the request in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

The recent spate of kidnappings in the North is demonstrated by the kidnapping of more than 280 students from Kaduna schools and the kidnapping of more than 100 internally displaced women from Borno State.

Yar’Adua, the new NSF chairman who succeeded suspended Benue State Senator Abdul-Ahmed Ningi, stated that the forum was extremely concerned about the current wave of violence and kidnappings in the North.
“The sequence of events that have transpired in Kaduna State, starting with the kidnapping of 286 students and staff on March 7; the heinous attack on worshippers in a mosque on March 8 and the kidnapping of 61 additional individuals on March 12,” he said, expressing worry.

“This is followed by 14 persons on March 17 and a staggering total of 87 individuals in Kujuru on March 18 among others.’’
Yar’Adua, who also serves as the Senate Committee on Army’s Chairman, declared that the conference is dedicated to seeking a long-term solution to the threat of insecurity.
“We will not rest until the security situation is significantly improved. It is our core duty and mandate and we will spare no effort in fulfilling it for the greater good of our people and our nation,” he said.
