Reps criticize the FIRS boss for turning down invitations, calling it irresponsible
On Thursday, the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives declared that Federal Inland Revenue Chairman Mr. Zacch Adedeji had committed contempt of parliament by refusing to appear before its members despite many requests.
This was said by PAC Chairman Bamidele Salam during the reconvened investigation into the income leaks in Abuja.

Remember that the committee had previously raised the prospect of utilizing its legal authority to issue an arrest warrant for any head of a ministry, department, or agency that did not accept its invitation while performing its monitoring duties.
Speaking at the event on Thursday, Salam said, “This is the fourth time the committee would be inviting the FIRS chairman but he failed to show up..
“In addition to writing to him officially, we have also made sure that such letters were delivered personally to his mail box and his WhatsApp number.

“And we condemn and describe it as irresponsible and arrogant, and we tell him that there will be consequences if he continues this contempt of parliament.”
He stated that FIRS had not been collecting the value-added tax that should have been paid to the federal government, despite numerous letters being sent to Adedeji going unanswered.
“The money would be in hundreds of billions by the time we finished our reconciliation,” he stated, noting that they had asked the FIRS to come and retrieve it, but the service had declined to appear.
