Protest: Ajaero claims that Nigeria cannot exist on 4,000 MW
According to Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigerian Labour Congress, the nation cannot exist on 4,000 megawatts of electricity.
Ajaero made this statement at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s headquarters, where organized labor is now picketing the building to voice opposition to the proposed increase in electricity rates.

The president of the NLC also challenged the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to reveal to Nigerians by the end of the year which power plant it intended to build. The Mambilla project, if it were operational, has the capacity to produce over 3,600 MW of electricity.
In addition, he stated that the Commission was causing inflation, for which Nigerians would still be charged, and that the NERC could not continue to impose tariffs in the absence of availability and accessibility to the goods they were paying for.
As a result, Ajaero urged the Federal Government to do away with all taxes that would further push Nigerians into poverty in addition to reversing the proposed raise.
