Ondo State APC Elders request that Aiyedatiwa investigate death of the governorship aspirant.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) elders in Ondo State have urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to look into the circumstances surrounding the death of Dr. Paul Akintelure, one of the party’s candidates for governor.

Akintelure, 61, passed away in Lagos on Tuesday after a brief illness, according to OpaPost.
Akintelure claimed there had been a threat to his life in a statement released a few days prior to his passing through his media assistant, Olalekan Akintelure.
But he declared he would not be scared of any danger.
Akintelure wrote in the statement, “The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward, for us to embrace peace, progress, and unity.
“Our collective strength lies in us to stand together as one, regardless of our differences.”
In light of the deceased’s alleged threat to life, party elders operating under the direction of Ondo APC Aborigine declared at a meeting on Tuesday that the governor need to look into the man’s passing.
Akintelure’s death was deemed shocking and devastating by the state governor, Aiyedatiwa, in a statement.
In a statement made by Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, his chief press secretary, Aiyedatiwa expressed sympathy for the Akintelure family and the residents of the state’s Okitipupa Local Government Area.

The statement read, “Dr. Akintelure was a wonderful human being and was a core progressive. He was very consistent and loyal to the tenets of progressive politics in Ondo State and Nigeria.
“He was a friend and associate. He conducted his private business and public affairs with so much decorum and humility to the admiration of many. We have lost a complete gentleman. He will be greatly missed. ”
In remembrance of the late party chieftain, all APC candidates for governor have suspended their political activities since the occurrence.
Speaking following the Tuesday meeting, Sola Iji, the former Nigerian ambassador to Togo and Chairman of the Ondo APC Aborigines, expressed sorrow over the late doctor’s passing.

He said the gathering was supposed to identify the group’s favorite candidate among the fifteen or so vying for the party’s governorship ticket, but it was rescheduled to a later date in memory of the aspirant who passed away.

“The meeting was meant to receive and adopt the final report of the resolution of the group in supporting one of the aspirants. We were shocked earlier this morning when we learnt of the death of Dr. Paul Akintelure. We have to suspend our meeting to seize the opportunity to mourn his demise.
“A few days back, he spoke out about threat to his life. If he so expressed that threat, even though we do not know the details, we call on the governor to unravel whatever mystery surrounding his death.
“It is part of responsibilities of government to protect lives and property. We have adjourned till another date to discuss,” said Iji.
