Oba Owolabi Olakulehin

The Olubadan Advisory Council will convene on Tuesday to start the process of installing a new ruler for the Ibadan region.

On March 14, 2024, the venerable throne became empty with the death of Oba Lekan Balogun, who had ruled the old metropolis for two years at the age of 81.

According to custom, the Olubadan Advisory Council meeting would take place at the home of the most senior high chief, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, in his Bodija mansion.

A source claims that the Olubadan Advisory Council will nominate High Chief Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the late monarch’s heir, at the meeting.

The source states that the Advisory Council’s custom of nominating a new Olubadan typically takes place following the late monarch’s eighth-day Islamic prayers, which took place on Friday, March 22, 2024.

The source revealed that shortly after the nomination, Governor Seyi Makinde would get a paper endorsing Olakulehin’s candidacy from the Office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

The Olubadan stool’s occupants have historically been produced via two lines that alternate. They are known as the Balogun Line (Military Line) and the Otun Line (Civil Line).

According to The PUNCH, the Otun Line produced the immediate-past Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, who departed to be with his ancestors on Thursday, March 14, 2024, following two years as king.
