Obaseki extends solidarity and sympathies following the fatal thunderstorm at Edo Market

The family of the four individuals who perished in the Jattu market in Etsako West Local Government due to a rainstorm that occurred during an early morning downpour and caused trees to fall on those inside has received condolences from Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Four verified deaths were caused by falling trees as a result of a rainstorm that hit the well-known Jattu market in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo after a downpour, according to a PUNCH report on Monday.

Marvellous Zibiri, the council chairman, confirmed the individuals’ deaths to reporters at the market.

Zibiri claims that further people were hurt as well, and they are currently getting well in an unidentified local hospital.

He called the occurrence a tragedy, expressed sympathy for the families who had lost loved ones, and urged the people living in the local government to stay inside when it rains.

Condoling the families of the deceased, Obaseki said, “I received with a heavy heart the news of the unfortunate incident that occurred on Monday morning in Jattu market, Etsako West Local Government Area of the State, where about four lives were allegedly lost due to fallen trees caused by a heavy downpour.

“The incident is deeply saddening and I extend heartfelt condolences to the victims and families affected by the very tragic incident.

“Emergency response teams have since been deployed to manage the situation and provide support and assistance to those affected, while urgent steps are immediately being taken to ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future. While we urge all residents to exercise utmost caution as the rainy season intensifies, we reassure you of sustained efforts and our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.

“May God grant repose to the souls of the departed and succour to their families”, he added.
