NLC Protest: Police prepared for nonviolent protest in Kano – CP
In anticipation of the NLC protest planned by organized labor union members in the state on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Police Command in Kano has put its security staff on high alert.
Proactive security measures had already been put in place, according to state Commissioner of Police Mr. Hussaini Gumel in Kano, to guarantee peaceful and orderly protest in every part of the state.

According to him, the deployment was made in observance of residents’ fundamental right to peaceful protest that complies with the law.
He noted that in order to guarantee the unrestricted movement of anyone wishing to demonstrate, the command was collaborating with other state security organizations.
Gumel clarified that divisional police officers, area commanders, and tactical commanders in each of the state’s forty-four local government areas had received an operational order for the personnel.

“We have enough armed officers on hand to guard all hotspots, including : vehicle parks, banks, political party offices, and commercial and recreational spaces, before, during, and after the protest.
The commissioner declared, “I am giving 100 per cent assurance to all law-abiding residents of the state to go about freely with their legitimate daily activities without threat to lives and property.”
He said that in order to ensure physical security and surveillance responsibilities during the protest, armed security personnel will be present in all designated strategic areas around the state.
He declared that while police were on high alert to deal with any security threats both inside and outside the city, the command would not stand for any kind of violence both during and after the protest.

The commissioner voiced hope that the existing security measures would encourage harmonious interaction between the locals both during and after the protest.
