NEWS: EU fines Hungary €200 million for violating asylum regulations
Hungary was penalized 200 million euros ($216 million) by the EU’s highest court for violating the asylum regulations of the bloc and for forcibly deporting migrants. Additionally, Hungary was fined one million euros every day.

The European Court of Justice noted that Budapest “is deliberately evading” compliance with EU legislation, despite a 2020 order requiring it to uphold international processes for asylum seekers, which is why it was fined and punished.
