New release: Portable turns recent arrest into song
Diligent Following his release from police custody, Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, is back in the studio.
The musician responded to his detention on Thursday by sharing a taste of his soon-to-be-released new song, “Spiderman,” in which he had fallen behind on his G-Wagon SUV payment plan.

The song, which was produced by 2tuponthebeat, makes reference to the singer’s ability to fly by describing how he hopped over a gate to avoid being arrested.
In a video that went viral on Tuesday, the musician—who was accompanied by eight other people—was seen going over a nearby gate and then taking off running. The performer was wearing a white shirt with black stripes.
Following a 24-hour detention period, the “Zazuu” singer was granted his freedom if he fulfilled the bail requirements.

The contentious Portable Diary is not the first episode, as of Tuesday.
The well-known singer was detained by the Ogun State Police Command in March 2023 after she was shown in two viral videos abusing and physically abusing some Nigerian police officers.
In the course of investigating the incident, the police invited Portable, who declined the invitation. Outraged by his bluster, the police gave him a 72-hour ultimatum before taking him into custody.

In a related incident, the singer was detained by Ogun State police and charged with five charges of attempted theft and violence at the Ifo Magistrates’ Court.
After fulfilling his bail requirements, he was freed from the Ilaro Correctional Centre after being placed on remand.
