NDLEA and Army intercept terrorists’ narcotics shipment
A consignment of illegal drugs intended for Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State was intercepted by the Nigerian Army’s 21 Armored Brigade and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in a cooperative operation.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, stated via X on Tuesday that the joint team swiftly executed an operation in Konduga Local Government Area based on intelligence, which led to the seizure of 163 bags of a psychoactive substance known as “Goom” or “Akusukura” in the local dialect. There were an astounding 2.5 tons of the illegal narcotic found in all.

Makama via X on Tuesday disclosed that the operation was initiated as a result of a tip-off, highlighting the critical function that timely information plays in countering both terrorism and narcotics trafficking.
Makama wrote, “The operation, which was carried out following a tip-off, resulted in the recovery of 163 bags of the substance, equivalent to 2.5 tons in a warehouse in Konduga.
“The suspected illicit substances, known as “Goom” or “Akusukura”, is a deadly psychoactive substance that represents a serious threat to public health and poses a challenge for drug policy.”

He continued by saying that users of the chemical, which comes in a variety of forms, mostly take it in liquid and powdered form to increase their body’s levels of psychological or nervous activity, or to put it another way, to get high.
“The recovered items were handed over to the NDLEA team leader, and the area was cordoned off by the military. The operation highlights the effectiveness of interagency collaboration and the commitment of the military and NDLEA to keeping Nigeria safe,” Makama added.
