MTV EMAs 2024: Tyla wins the Best Afrobeats Award, While Burna Boy, Asake, Rema, and Tems Lose Out
Tyla, a South African artist, won the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards’ (MTV EMAs 2024) Best Afrobeats category.
According to OpaPost.com, the 30th edition of the annual MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) took place on Sunday, 10th November,2024. The event honored exceptional musicians and up-and-coming performers while displaying the finest of the world’s musical variety.

Last night’s event took place in the Co-op Arena.
To win, the singer defeated Grammy-winning Nigerian musicians Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Tems, Rema, and Asake.
She brought her sister up on stage to accept her Best Afrobeats award.

“If you guys don’t know (her), this is my sister, Sydney (Seethal),” Tyla said, followed by applause from the crowd. “Oh my gosh, guys – I can’t believe it.”
“Literally, all the nominees, they are insane, they literally have taken Afrobeats so far. And I’m so honored to be winning this award, you know, like it’s insane. But I just want to thank my team.”

“I want to thank my family, the Tygers for voting for me. Thank you to God, obviously.”
The Water singer turned to her sister, who told Tyla, “Girl, I’m proud of you!”
During the award event, the South African singer also won the Best R&B and Best African Act Awards.
