Man killed by suspected cult members in Rivers
On Thursday night in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, along the Nanka/Lumumba Diobu axis between Miles 2 and 3, an unidentified guy was shot and killed by gunmen who were reportedly cultists.
It was learned that the deceased was shot in the head by three gunmen who had followed him to a store to buy noodles.

Because of the delicate nature of the situation, the insider, who spoke under anonymity, stated, “It was about past 8 pm.” Because of the heat wave, some individuals were still outside getting some fresh air at the time.
“This man was followed by some boys who I think are part of a cult. As soon as he went to get noodles and was heading home, they shot him at close range.
People in the neighborhood began to flee for their lives as soon as the boys vanished. A lot of people fled into their homes, and several store owners closed and took cover until it was safe to go. Police arrived later to take the man’s corpse away. He was shot in the head, which is why there was blood all over the floor.

An further story associated the incident with a cult conflict between two Deygbam gang sections.
When contacted on Saturday, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesman for the state police command, acknowledged the occurrence but downplayed the claim of cult war.
According to Iringe-Koko, an inquiry has started to make sure the offenders are detained and brought to justice.

“I can confirm the incident, but it was not a cult war,” said Superintendent of Police Iringe-Koko. In fact, the man was shot dead by some cult members during an attack.
“An investigation is being conducted to apprehend the offenders and bring them before the law.”
