Lawmakers from Benue elude gunmen’s ambush
Five legislators from the Benue State House of Assembly managed to flee an ambush by armed herders who were accused of attacking them.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, the event occurred on Thursday night in Tyomu in the state’s Gwer Local Government Area at around ten p.m.

According to reports, the militants who took control of the Gboko/Makurdi roadway opened fire on any car that happened to be driving by that hour.
Before they were attacked, the assembly members were reportedly on their way back from an oversight assignment in Katsina-Ala LGA.
Saater Tiseer, the Majority Leader, Ipusu Bemdoo, the Chief Whip, Simon Gabo of the Mata State Constituency, Samuel Jiji of the Logo State Constituency, and Cephas Dyaku are among the members that were attacked.

Confirming the incident on Friday, Chairman House Committee on Information and Orientation, Elias Audu said, “Recalled that yesterday (Thursday) 23, May 2024 by 10 pm honourable members of 10th Benue State House of Assembly were returning from Katsina-Ala after a public hearing on a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of Benue State Civil Protection Guards and purposes connected therewith
“Suspected herders numbering more than forty on motorcycles ambushed them at Tyomu and shot severally at the vehicles conveying members.”
On a day of public hearing on a security bill, he conveyed the speaker’s worry, Aondona Dajoh, about the ongoing attacks on state citizens who are innocent and the most recent attack on assembly members.

Nonetheless, the home demanded that security personnel apprehend the assailants right away and prosecute them.
The state command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, was reached via phone, but attempts to gain a response were unsuccessful.
