Kano conjoined twins are separated by a Saudi medical team
Hassana and Husaina, conjoined twins from Nigeria, had a surgery procedure to separate them carried out successfully by a Saudi medical and surgical team at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, issued guidelines that were followed throughout the surgery.

This is stated in a statement provided to PUNCH Online on Friday by Mohammed Alsahabi, Press Attaché of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Abuja.
The procedure was the result of careful planning and execution by a committed group of medical professionals, and it started on Thursday morning, February 29, 2024.
Following thorough exams, the Kano twins—who arrived in Riyadh on October 31, 2023—showed commonalities in their lower spine, pelvis, lower belly, and lower spinal nerves.

“The surgical intervention took place over the course of nine scheduled stages, lasting approximately fourteen hours.
“To assure the success of this intricate procedure, a team of 38 consultants, specialists, technicians, and nursing personnel with expertise in pediatric neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, anesthesia, and orthopaedics worked together seamlessly.
“This surgical milestone marked the 60th operation undertaken by the Saudi program for separating Siamese twins, a program that has provided care for 135 conjoined twins from 25 countries over the past 34 years,” Alsahabi said.

He claimed that Hassana and Husaina’s successful separation represents the Kingdom’s dedication to furthering medical research and providing compassionate healthcare to a worldwide audience.
Combined twins…
Conjoined twins, on the other hand, are identical twins with a body joined in gestation.
Conjoined siblings or “conjoined twinning” is the medical term for conjoined twins.
The difficulty of the case depends on the twins’ common organs and the degree of their relationship.
The twins’ general health, the degree of their connection, and their likelihood of continuing to operate independently following separation are some of the factors that may influence the decision to do a surgical separation.
