Just in : Mohbad’s family will carry out a different autopsy in the US
To ascertain the cause of the deceased’s death, the family of late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has disclosed plans to carry out a separate autopsy and toxicology test.
Monisola Odumosu, the leader of the family’s legal team, said this in a Thursday exclusive conversation with PUNCH Online.

According to Odumosu, the family intends to start the procedure by submitting an application to the Lagos State High Court.
Dr. Richard Somiari, the director of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Center, informed the coroner’s court in the state’s Ikorodu district on Wednesday that Mohbad’s postmortem results will be available in the next three to four weeks.
However, Odumosu clarified that Mohbad’s family voiced worries about the autopsy procedure and thought the government was moving too slowly with the test.

He added that when the post-mortem was being done, the family was not represented by any experts.
“We filed an application at the Coroner’s court on Wednesday to conduct our own toxicology and autopsy, but the magistrate told us to approach the High Court because he did not have the authority to approve that,” he stated.
“We’re already getting ready to submit our paperwork to the High Court in order to request authorization to conduct our own autopsy and toxicological examination. Since we believe the administration is moving too slowly, we have been preparing for this since earlier.

“About three weeks ago, they revealed on a radio broadcast that they were almost ready to send it to the US. That could take ten to twelve months, which is too lengthy given that they had collected a sample from the body nearly five months prior.
“So why do we have to wait for so long a time? Then secondly, when the autopsy was being conducted, representatives of the family should be someone who is well informed on the issue of the autopsy; an expert that will confirm if it was properly done. But they just called anyone.”
Odumosu went on to say that the family wanted confirmation that the material they removed from the dead person’s body was the same material they submitted to the US for a toxicology test.

He further stated that the additional test would take place in the United States.
“We also intend to carry it out in the United States,” he stated. We also made the decision because, for example, poisoning someone will eventually fade to the point where no test can find it. Therefore, we don’t want to wait until after that to consider conducting our test and finding that nothing was discovered.
At the age of 27, Mohbad passed away on September 12; the circumstances of his passing sparked debates on social media.
Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s Marlian Music record label, departed the label in February 2022.

A 13-person special investigation team was established by the Lagos State Police Command on September 18, 2023, to look into the death.
Along with other people, Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, nicknamed Sam Larry, were also arrested as a result of his passing.
On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s body was dug up for an autopsy to determine the cause of his passing.
Primeboy handed himself in two days after the authorities declared him wanted on October 4, 2023, during the course of their investigation.
In the meantime, Mohbad’s father had declared in November 2023 that no one would be allowed to take his son’s remains for burial without his permission.
