In Anambra, a truck strikes pedestrians, killing one and injuring two
An articulated vehicle collided with pedestrians near the Onitsha-Asaba bridgehead, resulting in the death of an unidentified female and the injuries of two other people.
It was learned that the accident occurred on Thursday and that brake failure was the reason behind it.

As the driver was driving down the River Niger bridge on his way to Asaba, an eyewitness reported that the brakes failed. He then lost control of the vehicle and collided with pedestrians at the side of the road.
In a statement, C. A. Iyiegbuniwe, the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Staff Officer for Public Education in Anambra, verified the collision.
Iyiegbuniwe said, “The crash occurred today, April 4. 2024 at about 3:20hrs of the day along Onitsha-Asaba Bridgehead.

“It involved an articulated white and green Mercedes Benz vehicle with registration number NKE25LG.
“The vehicle had a brake failure and rammed into people. Two persons were injured and one female was killed.
“On arrival at the scene, FRSC men took the two injured persons to Toronto Hospital, Onitsha, while the dead were taken to Toronto Mortuary.”

Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander RS5.3 Awka, was cited by Iyiegbuniwe as expressing sympathy to the victims’ families.
He was also cited as counseling drivers to maintain their cars on a regular basis and follow traffic laws.
