In a road accident in Anambra, one person died and eight were injured

The Ihiala Local Government Area secretariat reported that on Tuesday, a vehicle accident along the Owerri-Ihiala Expressway claimed the life of an unidentified individual.

It was learned that the collision, which happened at midday, involved two God is Good Logistics cars as well as the driver of a commercial bus, a Nissan Caravan.

Eyewitness sources state that the driver of the Ford car was traveling quickly when one of its front tires came off. He then lost control and struck the rear of the Nissan car that was in front of it.

According to the source, the crash included 11 people, including 7 male adults and 4 female adults. Of these, 1 male adult died, 4 male adults and 4 female adults were injured, and 2 people were recovered unharmed.

While acknowledging the collision, Margaret Onabe, the state’s acting Sector Public Education Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps, stated that speed and loss of control were most likely the cause of the deadly collision.

According to Onabe, “A driver for God is Good Logistics, identified as Francis Basil, drives a black Ford E-250 bus with registration number JJJ842YG. Another driver, Orjiwuru Augustine, drives a custom Nissan Caravan commercial bus with registration number TTK518XA. was a party to a tragic car accident that occurred today, March 5, 2024, at around 12:00 hours, two poles before the Ihiala LGA Secretariat by the Owerri-Ihiala Expressway.

Eyewitnesses said that when the Ford driver was traveling quickly, one of his front tires came off, causing him to lose control and ultimately crash into the rear of the Nissan in front of him.

Eleven adults—seven of them male and four of them female—were engaged in the collision. Two persons were rescued unharmed, four male and four female adults were injured, and one adult man passed away.

“One male adult was verified dead and his corpse was placed at the same hospital mortuary after the FRSC rescue squad from RS5.34 Ihiala Unit Command, Anambra State, hurried the victims to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala.

The squad tow the wrecked cars to the police station in cooperation with officers from the Ihiala Divisional Police Station. The obstruction was removed, and both pedestrian and vehicle mobility returned to normal.

She said that Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander for Anambra State, expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased victim and begged for a speedy recovery for the injured.

“He issued a severe warning to drivers to stop breaking traffic laws, stressing that the purpose of traffic laws is to prevent accidents like the one that happened. She said, “Drive to save both your life and the lives of other drivers.”
