Ex NLC President Ciroma has passed away

Ali Ciroma, a former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, passed away.

Ciroma passed away on Tuesday at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in the capital city of Borno State, Maiduguri.

The unionist’s death was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday by a family member, Ali Ibrahim Ciroma, who also serves as the secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Borno State Council.

The statement read, “It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of Comrade Ali Ciroma, former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

“The sad event occurred this evening (Tuesday, April 2) at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

“The burial for the repose of the deceased will be held tomorrow Wednesday 4pm at the residence of the deceased No.7A along Galadima Road near Muhammadu Shuwa Memorial Hospital (Nursing Home), Maiduguri.”

Ciroma led the NLC as its president from 1984 to 1988, when Gen. Ibrahim Babangida’s military regime drove him out and the organization was dissolved.

He rejoined the union movement under the Abacha administration when he was named the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers’ Sole Administrator.
