Edo 2024: INEC releases the list of contenders for governorship
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fulfilled its commitment to provide the list of 17 political parties’ nominees for the Edo State governorship on September 21, 2024.
In Benin City, the list was presented by Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).

According to the list that was presented, the Commission chose Barrister Olumide Akpata of the Julius Abure-led camp of the Labour Party (LP) over Barrister Anderson Uwadiae Asemota, the candidate of the Alhaji Lamidi Apapa-led side.

According to the list that was presented, the Commission chose Barrister Olumide Akpata of the Julius Abure-led camp of the Labour Party (LP) over Barrister Anderson Uwadiae Asemota, the candidate of the Alhaji Lamidi Apapa-led side.
Recall that the Apapa faction of the LP nominated Anderson Uwadiae Asemota and Barrister Monday Ojore Mawah as the party’s nominee and running mate, respectively, in a letter dated February 22, 2024, written to the National Chairman of INEC.
The Action Alliance (AA)’s Mr. Uwaifo Osaro, the Social Democratic Party’s Aner Abdullai Aliu, the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s Azena Azemhe Friday, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA)’s Osifo Isaiah, the All People Movement’s Ugiagbe Odaro Syvelster, and the All Peoples Party’s Areleogbe Amos Osalumese are among the candidates listed by the Commission.
The others are: Obazele Paul Agbone, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Olumide Akpata, Labour Party (LP), Okpebholo Monday, All Progressives Congress (APC), Key Patience Ndidi, People Redemption Party (PRP), Okungbowa Paul Ovbokhan, Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Akhime Kingson Afere, Action Democratic Party (ADP), Udoh Obersifo David, African Action Congress (AAC), Akhalamhe Amiemenoghena, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Ighodalo Asuerinme, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osirame Edeipo, Boot party (BP), Enabulele Bright, Accord party (AP).

Recall that the Commission announced that copies of Form EC9, together with all academic records and other documents each candidate submitted, will be available for public viewing at the State Headquarters and the eighteen local government offices throughout Edo State. This will allow the public to access the personal information of the governorship candidates and their deputies.
