Debt profile: Kaduna APC supports governor and upholds suspension of women leaders

El-Rufai and Uba Sani

The All Progressives Congress’s Kaduna State chapter has upheld Maryam Suleiman’s suspension. Suleiman had criticized Senator Uba Sani, the state governor, for the enormous debt the state had inherited from the previous administration.

The party stated that the governor’s dedication to open and inclusive governance was demonstrated by the publication of the state’s debt profile, which was praiseworthy.

According to The PUNCH, Sani bemoaned the massive debt he inherited from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, at a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday.

Sani claimed that the state currently only has a small amount of money, not enough to cover salaries, and that the previous governor left his administration with $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual obligations.

“Despite the huge debt burden of $587 million, M85 billion, and 115 Contractual Liabilities sadly inherited from the previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development.

“We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly,” the governor had said.

In reaction, the governor was chastised for his comments by the APC women’s leader in a widely shared Hausa video.

The women’s leader was suspended from her Badarawa/Malali ward as a result.

But the state APC upheld the indefinite ban in a statement released on Tuesday in Kaduna by Salisu Wusono, its publicity secretary.

The governor’s open and inclusive leadership style, which was demonstrated by the variety of representatives in the Town Hall meeting, was praised by the ruling party.
