Chinese national executed by court for killing Nigerian girlfriend

Chinese national Frank Geng-Quangrong, 47, was found guilty on Tuesday of fatally stabbing his Nigerian lover Ummukulsum Sani, 22, with a knife at a Kano, Nigeria, High Court. Geng-Quangrong will be hanged.

A one-count accusation bordering on culpable homicide was found guilty against a resident of the Kano Railway quarters, Geng-Quangrong.

Judge Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji stated, “The defendant’s testimony is inconsistent; I hereby find him guilty,” while affirming that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The convict committed the offense on September 16, 2022, at Janbulo Quarters in Kano, according to information provided to the court earlier by the prosecution’s attorney, Attorney-General of Kano State Haruna Dederi.

He claims that for an unidentified cause, the convict stabbed the dead with a knife in her Janbulo Quarters, Kano, home on the same date at around 9 p.m.

He continued, “The victim was promptly rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where she was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.”

To the charge, the defendant entered a not guilty plea.

The prosecution called six witnesses, including the defendant’s four exhibits, during the trial to support their case against him.

The prosecution claims that the offence violates Penal Code Section 221(b) provisions.

The defendant was given the opportunity to defend himself in front of one other witness, who tendered five exhibits, and by defense attorney Muhummad Dan’azumi.

Dan’azumi sought the court to use Section 313 of the ACJL to propose the defendant for a prerogative of mercy.

“I didn’t kill Ummulkhulsum intentionally but stabbed her in self-defence after she grabbed my testacles,” stated the accused, Frank, in his evidence.

He begged the court to balance its ruling with justice and mercy.

Hajiya Fatima Zubairu, the mother of the victim, expressed satisfaction with the judge’s death sentence in an interview with journalists soon after the judgment. She acknowledged that it will function as a deterrence going forward for anyone who decides to take the law into their own hands.
