Cement price hike: Umahi and Tambuwal visit BUA’s 5th Plant in Sokoto

Sen. Aminu Tambuwal (PDP-Sokoto), the chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing, and Sen. David Umahi, the Minister of Works, visited the recently built fifth facility of BUA Cement in Sokoto State on Thursday.

Umahi asked BUA Cement’s management to lower the cost of cement on the market while he was in Sokoto inspecting the reconstruction of a 372 km dual road that connects Sokoto to Zaria in Kaduna State.

The minister revealed that President Bola Tinubu was extremely worried about the rising cost of commodities, particularly cement.

He disclosed that, at a meeting with the producers, the president had ordered cement businesses to go back to the earlier rates.

He said, “I urge them to follow the President’s order, enabling a significant housing program and the national agenda for concrete roads.”

He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to keep the value of the Naira stable and gave the populace hope that steps were being taken to address the escalating prices of commodities.

In reference to the fifth facility, Umahi affirmed the company’s dedication and voiced assurance about the caliber of the output, which was in line with the goals of the government.

During his speech, Tambuwal praised the cooperation between the government and BUA cement and emphasized the significance of cement production in the housing sector.

He said, “I believe this partnership will greatly support the Federal Government’s initiative to provide affordable housing, addressing the significant housing gap in the country.”

Tambuwal praised BUA for its perseverance and stated that it will make a substantial contribution to the government’s program.

Mr. Yusuf Binji, the Managing Director of BUA, guaranteed that the fifth plant would considerably boost daily cement production, hence bringing down market prices.

“The new factory will increase our daily manufacturing capacity by 165 trucks, which will further drive down the price of the product on the market,” Mr. Binji affirmed.
