Brickhall School, Abuja, closed for a week due to the death of a 4 year old
The Brickhall School in Abuja declared on Wednesday that it would close for one week in observance of the passing of Miguel Ovoke, a student who was four years old at the time.

On behalf of the medical director, Dr. Akinwande Ajayi signed the medical report, which said that the reason for his admission was his “aspiration on meat while feeding at school.”
Upon inspection, the boy’s pupils were discovered to be dilated and fixed, exhibiting a nonreactive response to light, according to the hospital.

It was reported that hisHis peripheral pulses were said to be “impalpable, blood pressure was unrecordable, and there was no cardiopulmonary activity or respiratory excursions.”
The report stated that the medical team’s attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
According to the report’s conclusion, he was “brought in dead.”

In the meantime, the school expressed its deep sadness that the student’s life could not be saved in a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the school’s management. The statement also stated that the school’s trained nurse responded promptly and that the final decision to send the student to the hospital was made.
The school dutifully asked everyone involved in the tragedy to honor Miguel’s memory with decency and peace, allowing medical specialists and law enforcement authorities to complete the autopsy, while acknowledging the decision to mourn the late student by closing the school for one week.

The school released a statement saying, “It is with profound sorrow and deepest sympathy that we at Brickhall School, Management, and the Parents Teacher’s Forum express our heartfelt condolences to the family of our dearly beloved pupil, Miguel Ovoke.
“We are devastated to report that Miguel tragically passed away on April 24, 2024, following a sad incident where he choked on a piece of meat offal from his meal brought from home, despite the immediate and expert care provided by our dedicated staff and certified school nurse.
“In response to this heart-wrenching event, we convened an urgent meeting with our school community on the day of the incident. “Out of respect for Miguel’s memory and to honour his bright spirit, we suspended classes for over a week, allowing our community time to mourn and reflect on this profound loss.”
