Breaking: The kidnappers release Edo PDP Chairman after 11 days of abduction

Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has been freed from abductors.

Dr. Aziegbemi was kidnapped on March 15 in Benin, but according to OpaPost.com, he is now free.

Less than a month had passed since his party held its primary election for the state’s off-cycle governorship on September 21 when he was abducted.

After being held captive for 11 days, Aziegbemi was said to have reunited with his family on Tuesday at around three in the morning.

Dr. Aziegbemi was accosted on his way back from Government House, where he had a meeting with Governor Godwin Obaseki, at the Bishop Edokpolor Boulevard Junction, Off Country Home, GRA Benin City.

On behalf of the family, Mr. Clem Aziegbemi stated that the PDP leader was released unharmed. 

“As a member of the Aziegbemi family, we say thank you all for your great show of love and solidarity with us all through the period of the adoption of our beloved son, brother, cousin, and leader, Dr Tony Aziegbemi.

“Thank you, all…. We are most grateful for all your valuable contributions through prayers and steadfastness. God bless,” he stated.

When contacted, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, stated that an official announcement regarding the incident will be released shortly.
