Arrest criminals who damage billboards; Aiyedatiwa gives police orders; and more.

Aiyedatiwa

The governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed the security services to look into and apprehend those who allegedly attacked members of the All Progressives Congress and vandalized the billboards of certain state candidates for governor and during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state.

On Wednesday, the President paid a visit to the family of the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, as well as to Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, the Olowo of Owo, and Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the national head of the pan-Yoruba socio-political party Afenifere, in Akure.

Both the Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Organization and the Olusola Oke Campaign Organization accused Aiyedatiwa’s followers of demolishing the billboards and posters during Tinubu’s visit.

In a statement released on Friday by Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, his chief press secretary, Aiyedatiwa refuted the accusation and denounced acts of violence.

“Any political campaign that disturbs the peace in the state is unacceptable and must be met with the decisive actions of law enforcement agencies,” he stated, echoing the governor’s many statements.

It is important to clarify that, during the President’s visit to Owo and Akure, none of the reported activities attributed to “political thugs” involved anyone connected to the governor or the Ondo State administration.

Therefore, the governor has instructed the state’s law enforcement agencies to detain and prosecute anyone discovered to be involved in such violent acts. The governor exhorts politicians and those who support them to make sure that their campaigns are issue-based, free of intimidation tactics, disseminating misinformation, and enticing the public.

“What was supposed to be a rousing welcome and celebration of Mr. President’s visit turned into a theater of violence and bloody attack on our supporters and other APC members who were waiting for the arrival of the President,” stated Mr. Courage Oladele, the administrative secretary of the Oke Campaign Organization, on Friday.

We had assumed that the violent politics and dark days of thuggery were behind us, and may the day never come when a so-called leader of mankind would relive the horrific events of the past.

“In light of the foregoing and the necessity to draw Mr. Governor’s attention to the despicable and undemocratic acts of these elements who attacked my supporters by donning vests and caps bearing his (Aiyedatiwa) photograph and name.”

In a similar vein, many APC members were hurt by the alleged thugs when they destroyed the Akinterinwa billboards, according to a statement released by Mr. Segun Ajiboye, Director of Publicity for the Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Organization.

The thugs went on a rampage, attacking properties and destroying billboards belonging to rival candidates for governor while blatantly firing bullets into the air to deceive onlookers.

Members of the party who were thought to be faithful to every candidate for governor, with the exception of Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa, suffered injuries of varying degrees as a result of the attacks directed towards them. Members of the targeted candidates’ t-shirts, faze hats, and other symbols were ripped to pieces.
