On Monday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria announced that it has successfully restored power to a portion of the Kano area served by the transformers damaged in the Dan Agundi Substation fire.

In a statement released on Sunday, March 10, the company’s general manager of public affairs, Ndidi Mbah, stated that the electrical engineering team had isolated the affected transformers.

While work is continue to assure full restoration to the remaining feeders, the team, according to her, modified certain cables to facilitate power supply to three of the feeders for Kano DisCo customers.

At the Kano transmission substation, two 60MVA power transformers caught fire.

A sudden spark from the electrical oil pumping equipment, which was used to replenish oil in one of the 60MVA power transformers that had recently undergone repair in the substation, is believed to have started the fire.

The statement further stated that after early-morning repairs on a punctured cable, the remaining four feeders—Zaria, Club, CBN, and the second 15MVA power transformer—will resume bulk power supply by the end of Monday, March 11.

However, the company expressed its gratitude for the customers’ patience and apologized for any trouble the incident may have caused.
