A South Korean court found Korean actor Oh Young-soo, best known for his part in the popular Netflix comedy “Squid Game,” guilty of sexual misconduct on Friday.

According to a New York Times article, the 79-year-old actor was given a mandatory attendance requirement for sexual violence treatment sessions and an eight-month suspended sentence.

The report claims that Young-soo, who was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2022 for his performance as Player No. 001 in “Squid Game,” openly refuted the allegations and informed reporters following the ruling that he intended to file an appeal.

According to reports, Young-soo was found guilty in 2017 of inappropriately hugging, holding, and kissing an actress in Seongnam, a city southeast of Seoul, by district court judge Jeong Yeon-ju. Prosecutors then charged him in 2022 after the actress complained that he had touched her inappropriately.

The article also revealed that Judge Jeong Yeon-ju stated that Young-soo had made potentially inappropriate sexual remarks to the woman while hugging, holding her hand, kissing her cheek, and lying in her rented room on several occasions in August and September 2017.

The woman sought to ignore her upsetting recollections for a while after receiving treatment on sexual abuse in March 2018, the judge said, but the success of “Squid Game” in 2021 made her demand that Young-soo apologize for his acts, which he did.

The judge stated, “Mr. Oh denied kissing the woman, said his apology to her was not an admission of guilt, and claimed that he had held her hand to help her carry things.”

Lawyers for Young-soo contended that the woman’s account lacked consistency. However, the judge thought her charges were plausible.

According to the New York Times, Young-soo’s career suffered as a result of the sexual misconduct accusation even before the court’s decision was made because he was left off of the cast of “Squid Game,” Season 2, which is slated to air this year.
