Academic pursuits will go forward in spite of the ASUU strike – UniAbuja VC
Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’allah, the vice chancellor of the University of Abuja, has proclaimed that despite the internal strike called by the university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, academic and administrative operations will continue.
According to a statement released on Friday by Dr. Habib Yakoob, Acting Director of Public Affairs, the VC made this declaration during a meeting with the Provost, deans, directors, and heads of academic departments.

The VC was quoted as saying, “As far as the management of the university is concerned, this institution is not on strike.
“Some people said they had declared a strike, but all of us, with the management, have decided that our normal activities in the university must go on.”
The management of the VC promised not to allow the institution to be crippled again, calling the strike “divisive and unnecessary.”

Additionally, he refuted the union’s claims regarding the vice-chancellorship advertisement, unlawful hiring and advancement, the postponement of the deanship election, and the creation of microfinance banks, asserting that the University had complied with legal procedures in each of these cases.
“Despite the strike, the university’s exam will continue, and the senate meeting will proceed as scheduled,” Na’Allah said.
The VC underlined that there will be no disruption to the university’s schedule and that business as usual will continue.

The ASUU branch in UniAbuja had declared on Thursday that it would go on strike, citing, among other things, concerns about the selection of a new VC and purportedly illegal hiring and advancement.
The VC, however, has insisted that the university has complied with legal procedures in each of these cases and that the strike is pointless and polarizing.
