Kanu’s family criticizes politicians in the South-East for deserting the IPOB leader

Leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu

The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra who is now in detention, has blasted South-East political figures for not meeting with President Bola Tinubu to arrange for their son’s release.

The leader of IPOB has been detained since June 29, 2021.

Justice Binta Nyako denied his most recent bail request on Tuesday.

But Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel, questioned why Igbo political leaders had not met with Tinubu to discuss Kanu’s condition almost a year after the president took office in a statement released on behalf of the family on Thursday.

“How be it that nobody among Igbo political leaders has reached Tinubu to discuss Nnamdi Kanu’s release almost a year after he came to power?” said part of the statement that was partially translated.

“Is it not deliberate? Have they not been gaining access to the President concerning other issues? It’s a shame that Kanu is being punished for asking for the freedom of Ndigbo, and the leaders have abandoned him to die in DSS custody.”

He said that some people were profiting from his prolonged imprisonment, which is why the political establishment didn’t seem interested in pressing the President to get him out of jail.

“Why can’t they go for his release if they truly love the South East?” Emmanuel continued. There’s a problem someplace. They are profiting from his prolonged incarceration, which is why they are not attempting to engage the President in any meaningful way. Remember that some individuals paid for his kidnapping and amazing transformation.

“Why should he be left behind for demanding Biafra’s freedom? Even though he didn’t use force to overthrow the government, he was labeled a terrorist. However, the same government is occupied with freeing terrorists from custody.

Emmanuel vowed to reveal the people who stand to gain from Kanu’s prolonged detention as well as the insecurity in the Southeast.

“Ndigbo and Biafrans at large must hold them responsible if they fail to act,” he declared. And there might come a time when the people can no longer be restrained.

“Nobody dies with any secret. Very soon, all those behind Kanu’s continued detention will be exposed. Those benefiting from the insecurity in the South-East are the ones enjoying his continued stay in detention. But nothing lasts forever. One day, they will be out of power.”

Emmanuel also conveyed his disappointment with Judge Nyako’s decision to deny him bail.

The family questioned whether the trial judge took the time to review the certified true copy of the Supreme Court’s decision in the case, which concluded that Kanu’s bail should never have been revoked in the first place by the Federal High Court.
