Four arrested as police raid fake drinks factory in Lagos

Officers from the Lagos State Police Command Isokoko Division have raided an Agege home that manufactures fake beverages.

This was revealed in a video that Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s public relations officer, posted on his X Twitter on Thursday.

Hundeyin said that during the raid, counterfeits drinks were found among other things, and four people who are thought to be the masterminds behind the illicit distillery were arrested.

The caption for the photo stated, “Isokoko Division officers, acting on credible information, raided an Agege home producing fake alcoholic drinks.”

Four persons operating the illicit distillery were detained by the authorities, and they also found empty bottles, counterfeit beverages, and brand labels. An investigation is still underway.

In December 2023, PUNCH reported that in the Eziukwu market in Aba, Abia state, counterfeiters were apprehended by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. These counterfeiters were engaged in the production of various fake beverages, such as wine and soft drinks, with an estimated value of over N750,000,000.

Magnus Nwonka, 42, and Imo Lawrence, 35, were detained by Ojo Division of the Lagos State Police Command officers that same month for allegedly possessing counterfeit beverages.

It was said that the suspects took the detectives to a dirty, multi-room factory where the fake drinks were made.
