Why did I rename Minna Airport in honor of Tinubu?

Mohammed Bago, the governor of Niger State, gave an explanation for his decision to rename the Abubakar Imam International Airport in honor of President Bola Tinubu.

He explained that the State Polytechnic Zungeru was renamed after the late literary great Abubakar Imam because he wanted to make sure that a square peg was put in a square hole. The president gave his approval to the decision, he said.

Following its inauguration on Monday, Bago made the hasty decision to rename the airport, which had been named after Imam in June of last year, to Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport.

This was revealed on Tuesday by the governor’s chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, who quoted Bago as saying that the news was announced during a live interview on TVC News on Monday at ten o’clock.

The Governor named the State Polytechnic Zungeru after the late literary great Abubakar Imam, stating, “It is a square peg in a square hole,” in an attempt to ease the sentiments of the people of Niger.

After Imam stated that the move was “simply to put a square peg in a square hole,” Bago clarified the Polytechnic’s name.

Ibrahim pointed out that the Governor had recalled the notable contributions made by the well-known Hausa novelist to the State and the nation overall, especially to northern Nigeria, and that establishing academic institutions in his honor the best was the Literary Icon.

Less than a year after it was renamed the Abubakar Imam Kagara International Airport, Bago spoke about the airport’s renaming in honor of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He said, “It is in appreciation of the President, for approving the State to establish the first special Airport Agro-Processing Free Zone in Nigeria and his immense contributions to nation building.”

“The Tinubu-led government has been providing the State Government with tremendous support, and the President is a great leader and astute politician who deserves to be celebrated.”

The Governor revealed that the renaming of the airport was carried out with the President’s assent and following discussions with pertinent parties, such as members of the State Executive Council.
