FG to backdate payment of increased minimum wage to July 2024
According to official statements from the federal government, the new N70,000 minimum wage payment would be backdated to July 29, 2024.
It has been decided by the Committee on Consequential Adjustments in Salaries for Civil Servants that the new minimum wage will take effect on July 29, 2024.

Punch claims that this was mentioned in a Memorandum of Understanding that was presented to the committee at its conclusion and that a reporter in Abuja witnessed on Friday.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding, “The NSIWC will generate the appropriate salary templates for other consolidated salary structures for implementation; the effective date of the implementation shall be July 29, 2024.”

The national minimum wage was raised from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 by the 16 membered committee, which was established to supervise the implementation of the National Minimum Wage Act 2024.
Part of the committee’s job is to negotiate salary modifications and prepare a complete blueprint for the rollout of the new wage.
