Retired police officers stormed the National Assembly, protesting unpaid pensions

Retired Nigerian police officers under the contributory pension plan stormed the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday, protesting several months of unpaid pensions.

The pensioners from several state chapters regretted the extreme challenges they had endured as a result of the National Pension Commission’s refusal to fulfill their pensions.

The retired police officers have petitioned the Federal Government to remove them from the contributory pension program.

This isn’t the first time retired police officers have protested.

In September 2021, retired officers from 27 states invaded the National Assembly in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, to demand their pensions.

During the 2021 protest, they displayed posters with inscriptions such as ‘NPF pension robbing police retirees, SOS,’ ‘cops personnel are dying in poverty under the contributory pension scheme,’ and ‘CPS is a death sentence against cops!’
