Tinubu wants to produce high-quality cars locally
On Friday, President Bola Tinubu promised to hasten the enactment of laws meant to support Nigeria’s car sector.
He pushed local automakers to put more emphasis on producing high-end, reasonably priced cars for Nigerians, especially because his government just introduced a consumer credit program.

During a courtesy visit to Abuja, Tinubu made these statements while being represented by his chief of staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, on behalf of the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers Association and the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers.
Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, verified this in a statement headed “Automotive Manufacturers Pay Courtesy Visit to President Tinubu.”
The delegation, which was headed by Ms. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, included Mr. Joseph Osanipin, Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, Executive Directors of Stallion Group, Toyota/CEAO, and NISSAN, and representatives from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.

“He (Tinubu) promised to assist in facilitating the speedy passage of the legislative bill,” the statement read, adding that locally manufactured vehicles should meet the highest quality standards to complement government efforts in revitalizing the industry.
A representative for the association stated that President Tinubu was to be updated on the progress being made to start manufacturing automobiles and replacement parts in Nigeria.
They advised the Chief of Staff of the President that the Federal Ministry of Justice was drafting and reviewing a legislative bill intended to stimulate the automobile industry.

They also emphasized the industry’s ability to relieve strain on foreign exchange and create a large number of jobs for young people in Nigeria.
Thanking the team, Gbajabiamila assured them that the President was committed to Nigeria’s industrialization through a number of programs.
He also asked the groups to concentrate on making cars that are within the means of all Nigerians, particularly in light of Tinubu’s plan to give millions of people consumer credit so they may afford cars as well as other necessities.
