99-year-old former prime minister of Malaysia admitted to the hospital
Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister of Malaysia, is approaching 100 years old, and his aide informed AFP on Thursday that he has been hospitalized for “continuous coughing.”
“Mahathir is expected to be treated for the next few days,” Sufi Yusoff said, adding he had been admitted on Monday.

Mahathir, a former prime minister twice over, turned 99 last week.
He had bypass procedures and has experienced multiple heart issues in the past few years.
Earlier in the year, he was hospitalized for over three months.

Mahathir was born on July 10, 1925, and held the position of prime minister twice. He began as the nation’s fourth national leader in 1981 and remained in that position until 2003.
From 2018 until 2020, he led the country as prime minister a second time, this time at the age of 92.
